Sanford Receives Solar Champion Award
WASHINGTON, DC – Last week, Representative Mark Sanford received the “Solar Champion” Award from the Solar Energy Industries Association, a national trade association that promotes a free market and cost-competitive American solar industry.
“Over the past four years, the solar industry has grown by 20% annually, which has far-reaching implications both in terms of energy independence and the environment,” said Rep. Sanford. “In South Carolina, this has translated to a 55% price decrease since 2012. Indeed, since 2016, solar has been the largest source of new electric generating capacity. It’s a booming industry, which deserves thriving market conditions. It’s an honor to be named a Solar Champion.”
“Representative Sanford has been an important voice in support of solar energy and we are particularly grateful for his leadership during the solar trade case last year,” said Abigail Ross Hopper, president and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association. “He is among a growing group of lawmakers who see the jobs and the economic activity that solar is bringing to their districts and he has taken bold measures to ensure that this growth engine continues to drive South Carolina’s economy.”
