Sanford Congratulates Congressional Art Competition Winner
CHARLESTON, SC - Representative Mark Sanford announced My’Asia McCollum, a senior at Cane Bay High School in Summerville, as the winner of the 2017 Congressional Art Competition for South Carolina’s First District for her piece entitled “Centenary 1947.”
He released the following statement:
“In our fourth year of the Congressional Art Competition, once again I am struck by the level of creativity and artistic skill of the high schoolers from right here at home. In that vein, I wanted to send a word of thanks to everyone who participated in the competition, including the many teachers, parents, and most importantly, the students. While we received a whole host of entries that showcased the talent of our students here in the Lowcountry, there can ultimately be only one winner. Accordingly, I’m pleased to announce that this year’s First District winner is My’Asia McCollum. Congratulations, My’Asia!”
Courtesy of Southwest Airlines, Ms. McCollum and her mother will be flown to Washington this summer to attend a reception recognizing her artwork at the U.S. Capitol, where her drawing will be displayed for the next year.
