Sanford Congratulates Congressional Art Competition Winner
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Mark Sanford (R-SC) congratulated the First District’s 2013 Congressional Art Competition Winner, Alexandra “Lexi” Maree Ball, in his Washington, D.C., office on Wednesday. Lexi, who graduated from Bluffton High School this past June, won the competition for her digital photograph entitled, “Overturn.”
“It was a pleasure to meet Lexi and congratulate her in person on her accomplishment,” Sanford said. “The Congressional Art Competition showcases some of our nation’s rising artists, and Lexi’s piece is no exception. Lexi has a bright future ahead of her, and I wish her all the best as she begins college in the fall.”
According to the artist, the artwork is a digital photograph of an “overturned wine glass with strawberry syrup swirled around it.”
Lexi will attend the University of Pikeville in Pikeville, Kentucky this fall.
The Congressional Art Competition is a nationwide contest where high school students submit entries to their respective U.S. Representative’s office. In addition to travelling to Washington, D.C., for a ceremony, winners’ artwork will be displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol.
